There are few perfect jobs but it is important that employees gain some fulfillment in a place where they spend so much of their time. A fulfilling job can boost the confidence of workers and help them to learn skills and develop. Not to mention that happy employees are much more productive for the company.

Unfortunately, this isn’t how it pans out for many workers, and they may end up feeling miserable in the workplace. Outlined below are some of the more common causes of low self-esteem in the workplace.

Micromanagement

You know you’re good at your job and this is why the company brought you in in the first place. Yet, you always have a supervisor shadowing your every move. It feels like they don’t trust you at all and this is starting to impact your confidence. Managers need to know when to supervise and when to delegate. They simply can’t control every move. If you feel like you’re not trusted to do the job that you’ve been hired to do, then this can very quickly have a negative effect on your self-esteem.

Unfair criticism

When someone makes an error, it’s only fair that this is pointed out so that the same mistake does not happen again. Nonetheless, workers should not face criticism for no reason or for things that are out of their control. For instance, a manager may have shouted at you because it has been a relatively quiet week for the business. Bringing in customers is not part of your job description and there is really no way that you could have done anything about this. You certainly didn’t scare the customers away. Over time, unfair criticism can really start to lessen the morale of workers.

In Kentucky, you have the right to work in a place that is free from discrimination, hostility and harassment. If you feel that you have faced any of these behaviors, be sure to look into your legal options.
